WHAT IS A LOOFAH?
Loofah is a vegetable which grows in warm and tropical climates. They are traditionally grown and handpicked. It has a coarse, spongy consistency and is made from a gourd in the vine-grown member of the pumpkin, squash and cucumber family. After the plant blooms, the flower develops into a long, gourd-like plant that resembles a giant cucumber. The gourds are harvested and left to dry for up to six months. Dried gourds are soaked in water, peeled, and their seeds are removed. Once completely dry, they can be sliced, cut, or shaped in various ways before they are sold as sponges.

Damp loofahs can harbour bacteria. If you notice any change in colour and scent it is time to replace it. Loofahs are 100% biodegradable and compostable.
